Preserving Assam’s Art, Culture, and Ancient Heritage for the New Generation  on 18 April, a cultural museum was formally inaugurated at Komargaon in Golaghat district with the aim of keeping alive Assam’s art, culture, and ancient traditions among the younger generation.

The museum, named “Ilandona”, was established at his residence by Suren Gogoi, a retired teacher from Bashapathar, Komargaon, Bokakhat subdivision. The inauguration ceremony was conducted in a solemn atmosphere by Purnakanta Baruah, President of the Komargaon Regional Sahitya Sabha. Several distinguished personalities of the Komargaon area attended the event, and the museum was opened to the public.

Alongside the inauguration, the Komargaon Regional Journalists’ Association and the web portal “Ajir Kantha” jointly felicitated retired teacher and collector Suren Gogoi for his remarkable effort.

It is noteworthy that Gogoi has spent many years traveling across different parts of Northeast India, collecting rare and ancient Assamese artifacts despite numerous challenges. Speaking about the museum, Gogoi remarked that in today’s mechanical age, the younger generation is gradually forgetting their roots and heritage. The primary objective of establishing Islandna is to reconnect them with these disappearing treasures.  Known also as a drama director and actor, Gogoi’s personal initiative has been widely appreciated by the public. It is hoped that the museum will contribute significantly to Assam’s cultural tourism and research in the coming days.

During the event, artist Shyam Baruah paid tribute to popular cultural icon Zubeen Garg with a portrait, while retired teacher Minati Gogoi offered homage to Suren Gogoi’s parents.
